Businesses on Hayden Island
People driving North to Vancouver may not realize it, but they’re driving right over Hayden Island. It’s okay. I didn’t realize an island was there either.
As befits an island, we have many boat businesses (new and used), and lots of marine specialty stores, such as Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe Rentals, Cook Engine, West Marine, the always interesting Sexton’s Chandlery, and Schooner Creek Boat Works, which builds custom boats for clients world-wide.
Hayden Island is probably best known for the Jantzen Beach Shopping Center. Jantzen swimwear and beaches may be hard to find, but The Island has pretty much everything else. Washingtonians like to shop here, save money (no sales tax), then blow it on Lotto tickets.
The Shopping Center features a big Home Depot, Target, Best Buy, dozens of others specialty stores and more mattress stores than you can shake a stick at.
Auto dealers from around the region buy and sell hundreds of cars and trucks in a weekly auction at Manheim on the far west of the island.
You can relax by riverside restaurants and cafes including Menjiro and Island Cafe (looking south) and the Holiday Inn Bar & Grill (previously Red Lion), 3 Sheets and Hidden Bay Cafe (looking north).
